Your Mission

As the Database Engineer, you will be part of our team and will join our expanding Information Technology Services Group.

 You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of clusters of a range of database technologies including MSSQL and MySQL instances in a mixture of containerized and non-containerized environments. You will be the main point of contact for various teams for databases topics. As well as being responsible for orchestrating upgrades, backups, provisioning of database instances and day-to-day maintenance of Production and Non-Production Databases.

What you'll do

  • Be point of reference for all questions related to our current Data Systems technologies.
  • Provision data systems technologies both in clustered and non-clustered configurations
  • Using company-standard tools, handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, deployment, etc.
  • Prepare quality documentation and specifications, including database design and coding standards, best practices, and training materials.
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of 24x7 mission-critical databases
  • Work closely with colleagues to improve the performance of existing databases.
  • Provide 24x7 support during on-call support rotation schedule

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated seniority and overall IT experience, including basic knowledge of Linux and Windows administration.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Consultative approach to supporting various teams
  • Experience in several of the following technologies:
    • MS SQL database management including availability groups.
    • MySQL database management with clustered environments.
    • PostgreSQL administration
    • Elasticsearch administration
    • TSDB: InfluxDB /  Prometheus / Graphite
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills, with the ability to research and solve technically challenging problems involving integrated systems.
  • Extremely organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English. Experience managing end customers will be an asset.
  • Related education/certification

Nice also have:

  • Experience with configuration management tools: Puppet, Ansible, Terraform.
  • Working experience with Cloud service providers
