Your mission

This is a superb opportunity for a talented Copywriter to join our Communications & Engagement team. Reporting to the Head of Communications & Engagement, this role will enjoy the flex and opportunity that a startup model brings, while working with a diverse, talented and creative team.

You will support the team on all internal and external communications and engagement initiatives across all our offices and brands, ensuring the creation of excellent social media content, engaging internal messaging and compelling campaign content. Your writing will help us meet our objectives of elevating and differentiating our company culture, supporting talent attraction, providing a unique employee experience and making sure that everything we produce is consistent, on-brand and fun!

The ability to grasp briefs quickly and communicate complex ideas in effective, accessible and compelling ways will be key to success. You’ll need to be highly skilled at delivering fresh, engaging content that speaks to our audiences, brings our brand to life, and helps to align and connect our employees with our purpose, vision, mission and values.

The role will require the skillset of a strong and imaginative writer and content creator. Your tasks will be varied, from creating long-form writing, to more concise content development and the reviewing and editing of copy created by colleagues. Experience in content creation in other media that helps brands articulate their story — such as infographics, illustrations and photography — would be advantageous.

What you’ll do

  • Meet with stakeholders to take project briefs, understand audiences, gather requirements and offer creative advice and solutions
  • Create written content, in both long and short form, that reflects our tone of voice and helps bring our brand to life, engages employees internally, attracts top talent and reflects our strong culture based on belonging, inclusion and diversity
  • Lead storytelling in various projects from web and social, internal communications and events, to video productions and other employee engagement initiatives
  • Devise and deliver high-quality campaign messaging that supports the company’s objectives
  • As an expert on the brand, you’ll ensure our communications all sound as though they have come from The Workshop or one of our portfolio companies
  • Be the voice of The Workshop’s social media and website presence, applying and adapting our tone of voice to all communication channels
  • Work with colleagues to define and deliver content strategies through a range of channels, supporting weekly content planning, in particular for the blog and social
  • Build strong, trusting relationships within the company, as well as with external agencies and suppliers
  • Work closely with multiple stakeholders, including senior leadership, on a range of projects: branding narratives, leadership communications, tone-of-voice guidelines, merchandise, product kits, marketing collateral, websites, events’ materials, and the employer brand proposition
  • Ensure all projects have a clear brief and that stakeholder’s expectations are clearly communicated
  • Help with content design and photo editing using Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite and more
  • Format copy and make changes to the website using basic coding skills
  • Review and edit content copy created by others, ensuring quality, clarity and tone-of-voice consistency 

What you’ll bring

  • Proven professional writing experience, specifically handling copywriting duties for print and online channels
  • Outstanding research, editing and proofreading skills; superb attention to detail and 100% accuracy are prerequisites
  • A proven collaborative, self-starter who thrives in a positive, ideas-driven team, culture and environment
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task, manage own workload and prioritise work as required to meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to oversee projects from start to finish and manage projects assigned to others
  • A strong English writing background and the ability to work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel and other copy editing or authoring tools
  • A degree in writing, journalism or a directly relevant area of study
  • Positive energy, a ‘can do’ attitude and a sense of humour – we work hard, but also like to have fun!
  • A portfolio of writing samples will be requested and completion of a writing exercise may be required


  • Some experience of writing brand narratives and product descriptions or product-based copy
  • Experience in the Tech sector, a startup or rapidly growing business would be a bonus
  • Project management experience
  • Agency experience would be a plus
