Your mission
The Application Systems engineer will be part of a team that supports and maintains our 24x7 mission critical corporate Applications. You will be responsible for keeping all customer facing systems running smoothly 24/7 by actively monitoring the applications and systems using available monitoring tools. The responsibilities include implementation of onboarding of new Application services, upgrades, integrations, lifecycle management and tier 3 support. In addition to this, you will also be a key contact for stakeholders and assist with the team’s technology direction.
What you'll do
- Act as a key point of escalation for any related issues that may arise and work with stakeholder where required
- Hunt proactively any potential issues and prevent incidents by debugging production issues across the application stack.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) in order to support the application
- Create and maintain documentation to ensure knowledge accessibility
- Drive continuous performance improvements: identify and implement process & procedures that improve the effectiveness
- Participate in incident triage and post-mortem reviews, and document any findings
- Participate in an on-call support rotation to provide technical support
- Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders including vendors to define application requirements, locate viable solution alternatives, implement, test and support the selected solutions
- Play a key role in the design and implementation of all Enterprise Application managed technical solutions
- Identifying essential maintenance and enhancements to the end-to-end services and actively overseeing the required
- Responsible for the application support and communication with relevant support teams
- Provide analysis and problem definition for production issues
- Resolve known issues, escalate to vendors or internal support
- Responsible of implementation of application and/or database updates and patching after hours
- Write documentation to describe application installation, operating procedures and application objectives
- Work with Project Management to plan and deliver project tasks
- Drive the standardization of applications maintenance and apply automation when possible
What you'll bring
- Experience on supporting large scale applications and systems in multi cloud environment
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills of applications error logs and audit trails.
- Experience in reviewing and analyzing operating system error logs in Linux and Windows based environments.
- Hunting mentality for system uptime and performance - explore edge cases, failure nodes, behaviors, or specific implementations.
- Experience on using and configuring monitoring tools such as, Nagios, Icinga, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Splunk.
- Management principles, CRM, Collaboration Tools like Jira, Confluence and Slack a like chat applications.
- Devops mindset and experience with CICD/automation and scripting languages such as Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform, Puppet, Powershell or bash.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Relevant experience in Service Delivery, Incident Management, Change and Problem Management Process.
- Excellent written and oral business communications skills in English.
- At least 2 years of experience in Application support.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to solve problems and take prompt decisive action
- Strong interpersonal skills with a can-do attitude to work in a team environment.
- Extremely organized with a strong attention to detail.
Nice to have:
- Experience with the following systems would be an asset: OpenStack, VMWare, GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker
- A solid understanding of: networking infrastructure and protocols, Firewalls, Load balancers, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, SNMP
- Good knowledge of SQL with ability to optimize queries, stored procedures, jobs and database performance
- Experience managing end customers will be an asset
