What you'll do

The NoSQL Database Administrator will be part of our team and will join our expanding Information Technology Services Group.

You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of clusters of NoSQL instances in a mixture of containerized and non-containerized environment. As well as being responsible for orchestrating upgrades, backups, provisioning of database instances and day-to-day maintenance of Production and Non Production Databases. 

  • Be point of reference for all questions related to Cassandra and Elasticsearch.
  • Review keyspace designs and CQL code.
  • Using company-standard tools, handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, deployment etc.
  • Train colleagues to perform these procedures.
  • Prepare quality documentation and specifications, including database design and coding standards, best practices and training materials.
  • Optimize profile server resource usage and make adjustments as needed.
  • Work closely with colleagues, including Database Services and application development teams, to improve the performance of existing Cassandra databases.

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated seniority and overall IT experience, including expert Linux knowledge
  • 2+ years’ experience in the following:
  • Design, administration and tuning of Cassandra and Elasticsearch databases.
  • Use of CQL and Cassandra tools.
  • Cassandra database administration and troubleshooting.
  • Sound knowledge in Cassandra (version 3.x onwards) administration and data modelling best practices
  • Cluster maintenance (including multi Datacenter’s)
  • Backups and restores
  • Repairs &
  • Performance tuning
  • Elasticsearch (version 5.x onwards) – Open source with
  • Security feature knowledge
  • Cluster maintenance
  • Performance tuning & Knowledge in internals of Elasticsearch for better troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of ELK stack and monitoring with Grafana/Prometheus for both Cassandra and ElasticSearch.
  • Understanding of database best practices and the ability to promote those best practices in the organization.
  • Unix (centos) knowledge for OS level troubleshooting
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and business functions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience with config management tools, e.g. Puppet, Ansible and Terraform
  • Cloud knowledge, e.g. Google & OpenStack
  • Strong scripting knowledge in bash (Shell scripting), Python and Java.
