What you'll do

The Legal Counsel at The Workshop is a key role, that is closely engaged with the business and aligned to its objectives by driving The Workshop’s wider legal function.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of technology, employment and commercial law in the UK with the ability to deliver legal services to a technology driven business. A good working knowledge of employee relations is essential.

The role calls for someone who is highly motivated with an action-oriented approach to achieving legal and business objectives, being able to build credible relationships with a variety of stakeholders at all levels across the company.

Key tasks may include:

  • Provision of internal employment and immigration law services to the HR team,
  • Advise on contentious, non-contentious advisory issues;
  • Provide specialist employment and immigration law advice on a number of areas including contracts,  redundancies, restructuring, disciplinary, discrimination and equal opportunities,
  • Draft review and update employment documentation including letters, policies and any other as required on specific cases;
  • Drafting and reviewing of commercial contracts, including service agreements, license agreements and other agreements relevant to the business day to day functioning; 
  • Participating in negotiations as needed with vendors, ensuring compliance with internal procurement requirements and policies as well as ensuring risk mitigation at all times;
  • Overseeing, managing and controlling the internal escalation and approval procedures;
  • Analysing legal issues related to commercial risks, and presenting clear recommendations to the business and to key stakeholders;
  • Keeping track legislative development, including case law relevant to the Company’s business and policies;
  • Coordinating and managing external legal counsel on a regular basis;

What you'll bring

  • PQE experience on commercial and employment law gained with a respected law firm or in-house;
  • Strong technical knowledge of applicable areas of law within a technology driven business environment and a desire to improve and further your expertise;
  • Good knowledge of Spanish would be a plus but not essential;
  • Prior experience in handling complex transactions;
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills;
  • Commercial and social awareness;
  • Good management and communication skills and ability to work and provide high quality advice under high pressure;
  • Must be able to demonstrate/show examples of solutions provided to complex commercial and employment law issues;
