 What you'll do

The Application Systems Engineer will be part of a team that supports and maintains our 24x7 mission critical Corporate Applications.

The responsibilities include implementation of new applications, configuration, upgrades and maintenance, optimization, as well as tier 3 support. In addition to this, you will also be a key contact for stakeholders and assist with the team’s technology direction.

You will work with some of the brightest IT professionals in the industry using only the latest and best in class tools and platforms. With peers and clients locally and around the world, you will support leading edge infrastructures and services for 1000+ users, focused on ensuring high availability and performance.

 Key responsibilities include

  • Act as a key point of escalation for any related issues that may arise and work with stakeholder where required
  • Act as an advisor for the team on projects, working with appropriate stakeholders and team, offering assistance and recommendations where required
  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders including vendors to define application requirements, locate viable solution alternatives, implement, test and support the selected solutions
  • Play a key role in the design and implementation of all Enterprise Application managed technical solutions
  • Assist with defining team standards and best practice processes
  • Identifying essential maintenance and enhancements to the end-to-end services and actively overseeing the required
  • Responsible for the application support and communication with relevant support teams
  • Provide analysis and problem definition for production issues
  • Resolve known issues, escalate to vendors or internal support
  • Responsible of implementation of application and/or database updates and patching after hours
  • Write documentation to describe application installation, operating procedures and application objectives
  • Work with Project Management to plan and deliver project tasks
  • Participating in an on-call support rotation to provide technical support
  • Implement best practices in application systems and network security
  • Drive continuous performance improvements: identify and implement process & procedures that improve the effectiveness
  • Drive the standardization of applications maintenance and apply automation when possible

 What you'll bring

The ideal Applications Systems Engineer will possess some or all of the following attributes

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a systems administration or application support role, using applications such as:
  1. Windows 2003-2016 Server
  2. IIS, Exchange, AD, LDAP, RDS, MS SQL
  3. Linux or Unix
  4. Apache, MySQL, Postfix or Sendmail
  5. Enterprise class applications with 200+ users (including deployments and support)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Experience in integration of services in a multi-platform environment
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills, with the ability to research and solve technically challenging problems involving integrated systems.
  • Ability to analyze, diagnose, suggest and implement process changes.
  • Ability to solve problems and take prompt decisive action
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English. Experience managing end customers will be an asset
  • Extremely organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Related education/certification

Nice to have:

  • Experience with some of the following systems would be an asset: OpenStack, VMWare, Remote Desktop Services, Project Management Tools, CRM, Collaboration Tools, Monitoring Tools (Grafana, Icinga), Business Intelligence Tools (R, Python, Tableau), and Atlassian
  • Ideally experience with automation languages such as Ansible or PowerShell
  • A solid understanding of: networking protocols, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, etc
  • Good knowledge of SQL with ability to optimize queries, stored procedures, jobs and database performance
  • Experience managing end customers will be an asset
